Deckle

Concept

Deckle treats the screen as a sheet of dark cotton stock running through a letterpress. There are exactly two materials, soot board and warm pulp paper, and the interface is built by tearing one away to reveal the other. Depth comes from impression rather than elevation: headlines and wordmarks are blind-debossed with a bright fiber highlight above and a shadow below, so nothing casts a drop shadow and nothing floats. Colour is refused as decoration, the palette is a single warm greyscale from soot to bone, and the only chromatic value in the system is an oxide red reserved strictly for errors. Heavy grotesque display type sits at poster scale against a slower editorial serif, corners are cut square, and rules are hairlines scored into the surface.
